John Cornell is the Natural Environment Team Leader for Greater Cambridge Shared Planning, a joint Local Planning Authority comprising the Councils of South Cambridgeshire and the City of Cambridge. John manages the ecology, landscape and tree functions for the Planning Service in Greater Cambridge, providing an internal consultancy, supporting the green quality agenda and facilitating the deployment of Biodiversity Net Gain as it comes online for all English LPAs in January 2024.

Cornell’s professional background is dominated by roles with conservation NGOs at the local, national and international levels, but he also brings a broad and varied perspective from previous positions within government agencies, private sector companies and in education, in both the UK and the United States, where he lived, worked between 1998 and 2009, obtaining a Master’s degree in Rural Geography from Northern Arizona University.
